Purpose of Exchange

Of the countries in Asia, the Philippines was an important ally who dispatched combat troops along with Thailand among the combatants of the United Nations during the Korean War. In particular, in the Battle of Yuldong-ri in Sang-ri, Yeoncheon (then Yuldong-ri), the 10th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army successfully defended against the spring offensive of the 34th Division of the People’s Liberation Army, contributing significantly to recapturing Yeoncheon. The county promoted exchanges with the city of Imus for the benefit of the Philippines, which has English as an official language, and for humanitarian aid to the Korean War combatants.
